Busy Busy BUSY!!

Well this weekend flew by without even a chance to catch my breath. I had a lovely large order to fill! I'm in the process of creating these beautiful light pink Christmas balls with gold lettering and balloons for a customers daughters 1 year birthday party, as favors for her guests. I thought it was a neat idea. It is DEFINITELY a lot of work, which I just threw on top of my two college exams and engineering drawing I had to complete, which was hard, mind you. Luckily, my Father-in-Law helped me understand what was being asked of me for my schematics assignment, or I would STILL be working on it. Needless to say, my nuclear classes are certainly challenging.

I'm utterly exhausted.

The Holidays Are Coming!

I'm so excited. I love this time of year. I've been getting a lot of inquiries about my holiday decorations but no orders yet, the extra traffic definitely tells me some big orders will be coming through soon! I can't wait :) It makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside!

Turkeys, Chickens and Eggs, OH MY!

Lately, I've been considering getting chickens, perhaps a turkey or two. The main reason is for the eggs, because I can incorporate eggs into a lot of foods and also into our pets food. The economy isn't getting any better and food isn't getting any cheaper, so I'm looking into ways to become more self sufficient. The birds are only a small part of the overall somewhat still blurry image I have of what I want.

A garden, of course, will be a must. I'm even considering doing a "how to" with videos. I only have 1.8 acres of land, but who says I can't use most of that to sustain life as much as possible? Anyway, back to the chickens. The chickens I'm considering are 12 dollars each, and that is okay with me as they are hearty egg layers. Chicken feed appears to be relatively cheap, and I may even be able to make a small profit selling eggs (I'm talking 50 cents a dozen...I'd give them for free if I didn't have to refrigerate and box them.

Anyway, would you have chickens? I'd love to hear others thoughts on the idea. I'd also love to hear what sort of gardens people are growing! I'm thinking of just starting off small.

My Trip to the Flea Market Today...

So, the flea market can be an amazing place to grab wonderful deals on all sorts of items. I decided to go to my local market today to check out what they have, and to (more importantly) find info about perhaps renting a table there for a weekend or two and see if anyone would be interested in my items.

I have to say, I was very disappointed. The flea market seemed to be full of very cheap half broken items, and clothing that was either illegally produced (think very cheaply made but too expensive to buy falling apart bags and apparel with LV and other name brands) or overused to the point that Goodwill wouldn't even sell them.

I also wanted to check out the competition, and unfortunately, I don't think I will be selling at the flea market. Not that I don't want to, I really really would love to, but I don't think I can compare to the little stores that seem to mass order products from China and resell them at insanely cheap prices, even if the quality isn't as good as what I would make, it would still be cheaper. And those little stores seem to be a dime a dozen at the huge flea market.

But what I REALLY cringe at is the thought of who is being put to work to make these items, and what are they being paid for it, and what conditions are they working under? It just really bothers me. If a place can sell something for half of what I can get the materials for, I can't even imagine what they actually paid for the product itself and for the shipping. It must have been mere pennies. This is one reason I've made a commitment to buying only American made products. And I'd definitely buy products from other reputable companies too mind you...Canada, the UK, Australia are a few...usually the shipping is a bit high though. And I'd only buy from actual people or small companies. I just can't imagine the deplorable conditions these items must be made in. I know that if something is made in America, chances are that a child wasn't forced to make it. My worst fear is that a child is slaving away somewhere making next to nothing if anything at all, all day every day, just to mass produce products to fatten some stingy jerks wallet that doesn't care who makes what and what the working conditions are.

Welcome to my blog!

Hi, my name is Tina and I'm the creative force behind Fae Fire Designs! I started my journey with Fae Fire Designs a month ago and I've been enjoying myself letting my creative side run absolutely WILD! It hasn't been easy though, I am a full time college student, and I also work full time and have two little ones. I'm a bit torn in life at the moment because I can not walk away from my crafts even though I have a mountain of engineering homework to do!

I hope you enjoy seeing my work, and if you would like me to create something special for you, don't hesitate to ask!
